Several thousand mourners, largely peace supporters, gathered Friday night in Union Square for the city‚s largest vigil since the catastrophic attack on the World Trade Center. Proposed plans to send tens of thousands of ground troops into Afghanistan were widely criticized as activists warned such an invasion would lead to another Vietnam War.
