\nSubject: Support requested for protesters arrested in Quebec
\nFTAA protests – summit delayed but repression begins
\nMass protests in Quebec yesterday including the
\ndemolition of a large section of the 3km fence
\nsealing off the city centre forced the opening
\nceremonies of the FTAA to be delayed by 90 minutes.
\nPolice attacked demonstrators with rubber bullets,
\ntear gas, water cannon, dogs and baton charges.
\nThey have arrested many activists; most sinisterly
\na secret police snatch squad in an unmarked vehicle
\nkidnapped key organiser Jaggi Singh [1] off a quiet
\nstreet away from the confrontations.
\nA report[2] from the North Eastern Federation of
\nAnarchists posted to a-infos indicates that many
\nanarchists are amongst those arrested including a
\ncouple of NEFAC members who were arrested before
\nthe protests started. This confirms the political
\nnature of the arrests being made, which are
\nprimarily aimed at weakening the effectiveness of
\nthe protests. NEFAC also warn that “The police is
\nlooking for scapegoats.” and ask YOU to “..put
\npressure on Canadian embassy and consulate NOW. We
\nalso call a world wide support demo Monday morning
\n(they are going to court then).”
\nThose struggling to shut down the FTAA summit are
\npart of the international surge in struggle against
\ncapitalism. Those of us who couldn’t be in Quebece
\ncan contribute by picking up the phone and putting
\npressure on the Canadian regime via their
\nconsulates and embassies. Demand the immediate
\nrelease of all those arrested.\tAlso you can email
\nany or all of the addresses at the end of this
\nmessage. Below is a form protest letter you can
\ncopy and paste into your mail.\tI strongly suggest
\nyou personalise it a little before you send it for
\nmaximum effect.
\nSAMPLE PROTEST EMAIL
\n“To whom it concerns:
\nI am alarmed at the political repression of
\nprotesters your regime is carrying out on the
\nstreets of Quebec. The arrest of activists before
\nthe protests, and in particular of Jaggi Singh by a
\nsecret police snatch squad, demonstrate that the
\nmajor purpose of these arrests is to make the
\nprotest less effective. I demand you release all
\nthose arrested now.
